2012 EDB National Economics Short Film Competition

Most Creative Short Film
Best Performance in the Spontaneous Round
Excellent Demonstration of Economics Content
Students’ Choice Award
Best Technical Quality

 

Each team needs to submit a short film on any 1 of the themes listed below:

  1. 1. Causes and implications of the current sovereign debt crisis.

  2. 2. Illustration of asymmetric/imperfect information as a form of market failure

  3. 3. Raising the level of excellence and competitiveness of in the service industry (focus on a specific industry or company).

  4. 4. Impact and response to the threat of global climate change.

  5. 5. Strategies and challenges to the 2015 United Nations millennium development goals.

All participants must comply with the following terms and conditions:

  1. 1. Each institution can nominate up to 2 teams and each team consists of a maximum of up to 5 students.

  2. 2. Your short film must be no longer than 5 minutes, made in good taste, and exhibit creativity and demonstrate content knowledge. 

  3. 3. Deadline for submission of short films is on the 10th February 2012.

  4. 4. All entries must be submitted unto a video-sharing website for final selection.

  5. 5. By submitting the entries, all participants have given permission for the films to be used for publicity purposes or/and used as teaching resources to other students or members of the public.

  6. 6. Film entries for finalists and winners will be selected by a group of external judges from institutes of higher learning and various relevant industries.

  7. 7. The presentations need to apply the concepts from Economics and can range from the light-hearted to a more serious approach.  It can take the style of investigative reporting with interviews (documentary series in ‘60 minutes’ and ‘BBC’), musicals, animations or even a rap.  

  8. 8. The use of profanity, gratuitous or explicit violence and sexual content in the videos is strictly prohibited.

  9. 9. The video clip for the contest must be an original work and must not infringe on the copyrights of others.

  10. 10. The videos need to be targeted at an English speaking audience.
