ACS 130th Founder’s Day Celebrations
By Aaron Jeyaraj, 6.07
On 1 March, ACS (Independent) celebrated an important milestone – its 130th
Founder’s Day. The day began at the Astroturf, with a parade involving all 10 of the
school’s Uniformed Groups, led by Parade Commander 2LT Kevin Tan. After the arrival
of the Guest-of-Honour, Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong, the school held a badge-
pinning ceremony, in which parents of academic award recipients presented their
children with commemorative ACS-SG51 badges.
Following the parade, celebrations were continued in the Centre for Performing Arts 2
with an address by our Principal Mr. Hodge on the stellar results of the 2015
International Baccalaureate and O Level cohorts, the upgrade of the school track, and the
completion of the Junior Block. Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong then shared memories of
his school days and his thoughts on the ACSian identity. The Philharmonic Orchestra and
the 130 Voices Choir led the school in several hymns. Video presentations highlighted our
rich history and traditions. The day ended with the singing of the school anthem, leaving
no doubt that the legacy of ACS will endure forevermore.
